Food Deflation Begins
Just from my own shopping experience, it appears that food prices had stopped rising awhile ago. Many larger retailers, like WalMart and Target, had made splashy announcements about cutting prices on thousands of items in the past few months. A few observers have noted that the price of grains, corn and wheat have been in decline for some months, and are at or near pre-pandemic levels. At long last, the markets for these commodities have regained equilibrium. Hopefully, these lower input prices from farmers to producers of end products will bring consumer prices down at the checkout counter. Don't be surprised if they make a meal out of their newly plumped margins for a time first.
